Course further information

The League First Aid course, delivered by Sports Medicine Australia (RTO provider number 110086), covers how to manage emergency situations and apply first aid in a Rugby League environment.  Prior to attending the one day face to face course participants must complete two online learning modules (approximately 6 hours pre-course work) which can be accessed via your NRL course room.  All candidates who successfully complete the course will receive a digital Statement of Attainment issued by Sports Medicine Australia, for the units of competency: HLTAID003 Provide First Aid, incorporating HLTAID001 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, together with an NRL League First Aid Certificate.

Participants must be at least 18 years old to complete a League First Aid Course.
Course Content
The NRL engages Sports Medicine Australia to deliver its first aid training.  The League First Aid course includes NRL specific content and both of the following nationally recognised units of competency:
  • HLTAID001 Provide CPR: covers DRSABCD and practical scenarios for providing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • HLTAID003 Provide First Aid: covers medical emergencies, wound care, bites/stings, fractures, dislocations, eye, dental, concussion, neck, abdominal and crush injuries, record keeping and reporting.
  • League First Aid: covers roles and responsibilities on game day, NRL policies & guidelines, emergency planning, hydration and hygiene, communication, management of concussion in rugby league, managing and transporting an injured athlete.
This course provides prospective Sports Trainers, teachers, coaches, administrators and parents with the skills and knowledge to respond to emergency situations, apply appropriate first aid procedures, and communicate about and report on first aid incidents in a range of situations, including community, sporting and/or workplace settings.

League First Aid is the NRL’s minimum requirement for working with players between 6 and 15 years of age. For players 16 years and over, the minimum requirement is Level 1 Sports Trainer.
